The Directorate General of Land, Water, and Forestry, in collaboration with stakeholders, development partners, and public institutions, coordinates the development and dissemination of policies, laws, strategies, and programs aimed at protecting, developing, and ensuring the optimal and sustainable use of land, water, and forestry resources.
The department also provides technical advice to the Ministry’s management on matters related to land management and planning, water resource management, and forestry management.
Forests, lands, and water resources in Rwanda play a vital role in the economy and the livelihoods of its population. These resources form the foundation for socio-economic development, with forests playing a key role in absorbing emissions that would otherwise contribute to climate change. In addition, forests provide a base for the country’s tourism opportunities, protect water catchments, and help minimize disaster risks.
