RWANDA BECOMES NEWEST MEMBER OF GLOBAL PARTNERSHIP FOR ACTION ON GREEN ECONOMY

On the sidelines of Stockholm+50 in Sweden, Rwanda was welcomed as the newest member of the Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE), an international platform to advance green growth and climate conscious socio-economic development.

The Partnership for Action on Green Economy provides integrated and holistic support to countries to eradicate poverty, increase jobs and social equity, strengthen livelihoods and environmental stewardship and sustain growth. The programme aligns with national priorities to offer tailored and effective support to transform economies to advance the 2030 Agenda and Paris Agreement on Climate Change.

The Partnership for Action on Green Economy is a joint collaboration between five United Nations agencies including the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).

“As the newest member, we greatly value joining the Partnership for Action on Green Economy. We are going to take our green economy agenda to the highest level, and we are ready to share our experience with other PAGE members. We know that we cannot talk about development without talking about the green economy and our environment,” said Rwanda’s Minister of Environment, Dr Jeanne d’Arc Mujawamariya.

As a member country, Rwanda will benefit from:

  • Increased green job opportunities and social equity promotion
  • Improved livelihoods and environmental conservation and sustainable growth
  • Increased investments in climate-resilient and biodiversity restoration projects

Being part of the Partnership for Action on Green Economy will also accelerate Rwanda’s efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and attain its Vision 2050 to become a carbon neutral economy by the middle of the century.
